Soul Birth

Soul Birth

A Poem by Laz K.

Look down at the misty chaos below; do you see the dancing sparks?

My eyes deceive me, or I do see a path light up in the dark.

A long and arduous journey; will you take it?

Tell me I’ll be free to choose how to live and love; tell me it’s not all writ!

Will you take a lifetime of troubles for bliss that lasts but a while?

I’ll be grateful for the few drops of honey in the chalice of bitter life.

In a temple of flesh and bone, will you find peace?

Only a hunger that will never cease.

The choice is yours; do you wish to play the game?

The fire that burns in me longs for a twin flame.

Will you not need a map to seek it?

My heart shall be my compass if I heed it.

You’re blinded by the light, but do you see there’s darkness there as well?

For a glimpse of paradise, the road leads through the pits of hell.

What’s this force that quickens you?

It’s undying love; I feel it through and through.

After the fall, will you stay true to your aim?

My soul burns with an eternal flame.

Why do many forget what lives in their bosom’s core?

They’re lonely seafarers that lost sight of the distant shore.

Does all light fade in the darkness down below?

Night has no power over the feeblest glow.

What do you know of Pleasure and Pain?

Rungs of the same ladder, they are links of the same heavy chain.

Do you dread making choices?

The wounded warrior gains his eyes, the victor blindly rejoices.

What’s the secret of the noble and the wise?

Chastity bears no brawling offspring; piety seeks no prize.

I set the chessboard; you make the moves. What will it be this time, bishop or knight?

A black king that stays behind; I’ve got no will to fight.

Life’s a flickering flame in a storm; is that all?

At the end of the game, all the chess pieces fall.

What choices you’ll make, who one on earth or in heaven can tell?

One last look at the world of the stars, and then, farewell.

"I'll be grateful fior the few drops of honey in the chalice of bitter life".

That resonates. We have to make the most of the opportunities that come our way. Procrastination will bring more misery.

You raise many thoughts here Laz. A most thought provoking and powerful poem. Expertly conveyed, I might add.

not a problem
Artfully written and wise of thought. Many questions asked within this piece echoes those we ask of ourselves in life. Some we carry to the grave never finding answer. A powerful piece of poetry Laz and one I enjoyed reading very much. Excellent work my friend.
