Reckoning

Reckoning

A Poem by Laz K.

Youth left no stone unturned,

Nor no bridge unburned,

Looking for truth, beauty, and love.

Feasting on deception and lies,

Our foolish, hungry hearts

Conjured fires of cold flames

That pleased the eyes, but

Left us shivering in the night.

Armies of minute men

Clamored in our minds,

Ravaged our hearts,

Fighting senseless wars,

Bleeding us dry.

The chaos within spawned

Confusion and chaos without,

Tearing down the flimsy

Façade of a pretense life.

Now, as strangers, we roam

Silent halls and chambers

Looking for buried treasure

In the sand, staring at strange

Markings on the walls, and

At mummified remains

Of what we once were.

And now, we are left wondering if we would have even recognised it if we had found truth, beauty and love, or perhaps that our perspective changes the meaning of them as we allegedly grow wiser.
Too much energy wasted on anger, that is thankfully one of the first things to go as we grow less able for it and more able to use our energy on what matters most.
I reckon your reckoning has been reckoned with such a great piece of writing.

we certainly did burn a few
bridges looking for the truth et al
the why's where's and whats
of life as lies and deceptions fed
the typical youth's ears and
our hungry hearts were still in
dire need, I doubt we would
have recognized the truth of
it all in our gullible youthful
years (that believed what we heard)
had we found that buried treasure
we were searching for with our
heads actually in the sand..

a perfect way to express what we have become...or unbecome....

too much truth in this...could shed a tear reading it...maybe a few.

Thank you, j.
We change as we walk life's pathway. The burning desire of youth to find truth, beauty and love has long gone. I reckon I don't even think about it anymore. I just live my life accepting that crap happens and then it is intercepted by passing light, changing the mood. There's no use for anger, life is far too short. Thank you Laz for sharing your poetry with us.
