![]() Glass CageA Poem by Laz K.Slippered feet shuffle
from wall to wall Resting on weathered
milestones Left like breadcrumbs around the house A photograph, a book, a broken Record playing familiar Discordant tunes, a
bottle of good Champagne sitting on a
dusty Shelf that gave up
long ago Waiting for that “special
day” Trembling hands dare
not touch it Now, lest they spill bitterness
and Rue all over the faded
rug. Stiff knees and old
furniture Take turns to creak
and sigh Knitted scarves and
minds Slowly unravel and weave
Cobwebbed dreams in
the night Behind glass doors, a painted
china Bird with a shattered
glass heart Broods over eggs that never
hatched Eyes and window panes Fog over in the cold
of winter Wrinkled lids fall like
a Curtain on an empty
stage The last lights
flicker, burn out, and From behind the glass
case A bird takes wing and slips
through The invisible bars of its old cage. © 2021 Laz K.Featured Review
