You ever feel like you don't fit in anywhere?

 

Too hot for heaven

Too cold for hell

Too dark for daylight

For the night too fair

 

Too high for lowbrows

Too false among the true

Too soft for a hard life

For roughnecks too smooth

 

Too hungry for the well-fed

Too thick for the lean

Too white for the soiled

For filth a tad too clean

 

Too scared to love

Too weak to hate

Too crooked for a square

For a lie too straight

 

Too ancient for the modern

Too out of touch and date

Too early for tomorrow

For yesterday too late

Nice wordplay in this one, along with some good rhyming. Has the sound of frustration of one who has difficulty identifying with anything in society. Perhaps the next to last verse is the key to the poem. Under the complaints lies the fear of rejection.

I love it. It perfectly depicts being rejected for being in the center of the spectrum, with both sides strictly against compromise. It rings especially true in today’s political climate, and in that regard I relate to it all too well. Bravo.
