A Silent StruggleA Poem by Laz K.It's about love that is playful, childlike, fun and transports you to a "magical playground". But, reality soon comes calling on the "children" to stop their foolish play.“Let’s play!” I thought I heard someone call Perhaps it was only an echo of my imagination But what fool would not reach for a key Dropped right in front of his cell of isolation? The playground was deserted, “It’s all ours!” I yelled “Hide-and-go-seek?” you asked “I’m in, but don’t make it too easy” I said “But I want to be found” you whispered and you dashed I knew where to look - you were in places I would hide if I wanted to be found; I saw though I was
blind What a thrill! To get to you waiting in a playhouse Under a blanket on a bed in a dark corner of my mind Then someone called, “You’ve had enough! Come in the house, wash your hands; it’s dinner time!” I wished to stay out there on that deserted playground To forget the house, the voices, and live a life of childish
crime How you smiled every time we ran, or skipped How your cheeks flushed when I caught you How I loved to get lost in the dark night of your eyes How I thought I saw a light flicker there, pure, sky-blue We lived a hundred years a minute Whispered secrets and exchanged sweet lies Lifted our veils, removed our masks Told tall tales but there was truth in our eyes But they kept calling, calling, calling “It’s time…It’s time…” their voices were muffled Coming from a distance, and the way home was A silent struggle as tears fell and feet shuffled © 2019 Laz K. |
