Rappers aren't poets.

Rappers aren't poets.

Poem - ATC

"
Speaking fast spitting into a repetitive beat
Making aggressive hand gestures shuffling on their feet
They all mean something it's oh so deep
They all got a sob story makes the muscle men weep
They feel that s**t.
But to me I see a distorted mentality
Living in a money fueled reality
Women as sex objects naturally
Fighting against the man, against society
When really they no little about politics.
So some rappers get told what to say
And some just look good because they get paid well
But I'm sorry it's not poetic in any way
You all say the same crap it gives me a headache.
We get the message color doesn't matter
But since when did that effect proper use of grammar?
How about a positive reflection
Get off my radio get some real life lessons.

Very good work. I think 99 percent of rappers aren't poets and probably 75 percent are boring lyricists. I am not a huge rap fan but there are rappers that I like. 2Pac was a great poet who actually published a poetry book "The Rose that grew from concrete." He is my all time favorite. Currently Kendrick Lamar is the person who lyrically is an amazing writer and actually featured some songs on his new album that lean more towards a poetic side. But yeah... most the stuff on radio is just the same old crap; money, power and hoes! Worst part is thats what this world buys into which is what makes that stuff so popular. :) Good work... great pieces make people think and this one did :)

there are some with meaning, but in general...i am not fond, the music is too repetitive, and there is so much anger---
the poets i learned from musically were Dylan, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Smokey Robinson and others.
that to me is poetry in music---

really like this poem...and your use of "effect" as a verb...

Thank you very much for taking the time to read and review!
'Get off my radio get some real life lessons' - a great line sticking it to those who clutter the airwaves with a constant barrage of c-rap. I like this very much.

Good I'm glad! Thanks for the review :D
So true, so true, so true!
Personally, I don't like rap or rappers. You could name any rapper, and I probably will have no idea who they are.
I love this poem!
Keep it up!

Thank you Emily :)
Thanks for the request! A refreshing topic, an opinion that most people live behind but never want to come out about. I'm glad you spoke up and your second stanza flowed especially well. Nice job! You got a lot of feeling in you and you really know how to set it on paper.

interesting perception
In one sense I've felt the same as you

but as a very muti faceted writer I can also honor the fact that art is open to interpretation

still, a good direction with it
