Stroke Me.A Poem by Tinotenda NyevedzanaiPoem - ATC"Stroke me" he would whisper softly, when we were alone of course, he was far too manly to cradle in my arms in front of company. So we sat for hours and I held him close, We said nothing, we did nothing We let the Love do the communicating Flowing back and forth between us. Forty years seemed to fly right by rarely noticing wrinkles or freckles come and go meaninglessly we were still always simply him and me Teasing at our aging playing with our family, Whatever hurt us we got through, until the curse Medically the irreversible worst, Paralyzed physically the nurse came, told me that he had lost his speech during the stroke, that it would never return I remember the last words he spoke, "I Love You." So we sat for hours and I held him close, We said nothing, we did nothing We let the Love do the communicating Flowing back and forth between us. Frustrated, he was always a man that would throw a tantrum if he couldn't get what he wanted and when I didn't understand he would flip out, scare me, I only wanted to help. The carer came and went, I knew that he hated her That he despised the speech therapy, But to me the stroke was meaningless we were still simply him and me.
