Decisions in the Dark

Decisions in the Dark

A Poem by lissa3333333

Darkness and silence, then -

a whisper.

So calm and serene, almost unheard.

It calls me forward.

Away from safety, away from reality.

Do I go? Do I dare?

It whispers "come or die" -

"Come or die".

What awaits me if I go?
What awaits if I don't?

I don't see but one choice,

so I go into the night.

As I follow along

more whispers appear

and grow with intensity.

Noises all around, but

I have no sense of space.

The voices encompass and surround,

but yet I still see nothing.

My body trembles

and I'm on edge.

Still, I keep moving,

not knowing what's ahead.

Afraid, yet curious

and all together bemused.

Why, where, what, when, and how?

I can't explain my feelings

because words just can't describe

how I feel inside.

All at once the whispers die

and silence fills the air.

I stop and stare at darkness

not sure of what to do.

But then the voice comes back,

more haunting than before.

It whispers over and over:

"Life or death,

it's now or never.

Death or life,

the time has come".

This reminds me of experiences I had in the past. It is a terrifying situation to be in. The poem itself flowed very well and I like the word choice as well as the format.
