If Only

it was never about the gaggle of girls aways around

or the sly snickers, angry smirks

none of that mattered as I mattered not

in the greater scheme of things,

I cared not

to engage 

all I had to do was think of you

and you'd appear

arriving unannounced but always welcomed

at the right time

every time

months and years slid around 

the obvious

yet,

of this

we never spoke,

always dancing around

like laughing clowns

each time the circus left town...
