Time and Seasons

Time and Seasons

A Poem by Alisa Js

this time, the seasons barely notice
so quiet, did you hear?
here, with those memories
that may or may not be real
although they remain,
somewhere in the space of random possibilities
we knew, we always knew

it may have been that next step where we faltered
why, perhaps we'll never tell
or care to discuss

as the days roll on
weeks into years
years into some distant realm
where joy remains,
untouched
unspoken

the ancients had a name for it
and maybe, it's all folklore
maybe none of it's true,
the silent sighs at the loss of what could have been
if only we'd taken that next step

gazing out toward the setting sun
I remember well,
silly jokes shared by you
crazy ways,
late night serenades as time bent
both unwilling to let it end

so close and yet,
I wonder, still...

Time tends to distort events, sometimes embellishing them. It's all right to engage occasionally in nostalgia, but reality is only here and now.
