Shadows

Shadows

A Poem by Alisa Js

in the midst of everything and nothing
memories of you permeate still,
the rustling of the paper haunts
lifting of this coffee cup taunts
my every thought

life without you leaves me stranded
I listen.
sounds of madness race outside my bedroom window
drunken screams and slurred speech
anger unleashed as slaps abound
blue lights splatter as tires slide
shadows hide

and I thought I was the only one
in pain

how absurd.

how can we pull back the page
to a sweeter time
when love was real
and hope alive ...

We all have our cross to bear - my mum would say and as a kid I would wonder what she meant but I soon realised that the cross assembles as we grow and so does it grow and weigh heavily.
The pain is deep in this one and the guilt and feeling pained in the face of other - more obvious sources of pain is equally deep.
Superb write Alisa.
