Almost is Never Enough

Almost is Never Enough

A Poem by Alisa Js

how do we say it was almost
good enough

letters in the sand
slowly washing away
like the night as it fled
into morning's new day

is it ever enough
to get almost to the finish line

watching from second place
as the parade passes by,
and you
listen again
to the reasons
to its ten millionth chime,
and you wonder why

how did we end up like this
after all this time.
when you were the star
of my perpetual dreams

we shared laughter and lingering glances
at maybe

and maybe, that's where we went wrong...

Almost... even the word itself speaks of backtracking... all... then quickly most... not all.
It always makes us gasp in disbelief to hear of couples splitting up who stayed together for 30-odd years - couples who we always saw together day and daily.
They almost made it...

Such a bittersweet write Alisa.

Thanks Tony,

It is sad when couples break up... heartbreakingly so.

~ i think that you've successfully raised a very important issue in a classic yin and yang situation... ~ when two people are drawn to each other in the most poetic way they could imagine, the connection does not automatically ensure that they are on the same plane in terms of clarity of thought... ~ sometimes, both need to cover a certain distance in order to arrive at a similar view of treasuring the equation as intensely as possible... and yet... sometimes one of them can see how precious the equation is and the other can't... ~ i guess it has to do with comprehending the significance of the significant other... ~ regardless of whether i'm reading this piece correctly, i loved the way you traversed through the nuances of a yin and yang situation in your uniquely poetic voice... you gave me a certain kind of clarity... an aerial view... which i appreciate very much...
