Somewhere, Sometime

somewhere in the middle of a random thought

you are there

everywhere

and in the midst of this hurried life I live

never enough time,

never enough daylight

your smile reminds me

of what it means to be alive.

there was a place in time

so far it seems, now

and when I stop to take a breath

I bow my head and see

a vision of your happiness

it meant everything

and for a moment, I'm transfixed

back in time

when we were 'we'

so meant to be,

at least that's what I told myself

the phone rings and I'm jarred back 

to my reality

perhaps more like duality at best

as this makes no sense

when it comes to true happiness

borne of this responsibility

my one reward

there's nothing more ...

reminds me of my first love...back in time...still frozen in my memory...she was a reward...the thought of her still is...but things sometimes just work out differently than we expected...once we gain the wisdom...too late to use it.

A beautiful depiction of memories that haunt so wonderfully they could be a mirage.
Their idiosyncrasies recalled when someone says or does something 'just as they did' - but they are not them or when a piece of music whirls your mind back to being in their presence.

Isn't it amazing how the human mind works? A phrase, a gesture, a look from that certain one who used to mean everything...

Now, only a memory, yet there are times when that phrase, that gesture, that look is recognized, albeit from another ... and once again, you're transported back in time to 'that' place....

... that beautiful place that used to be...for only you two.
