This is beautifully expressed in a sort of cobweb that somebody walked through and now is not quite connected. To me it beckons as to why they would not be together.

When the pain level of the act of rememberance reaches 'tolerable' then we are able to begin to recall with some fondness, the best times.
Perhaps that's when forgiving truly begins. Not a black to white transformation but moving through a series of finite grays.

Yes, I agree, when we can bring ourselves to remember without all the 'what ifs' and 'if only's' ... and not burst into tears, especially on the inside everytime a memory crosses your mind.. then I'd say you may be on the road to recovery...

~ there is such a palpable sadness in your words, dear alisa... and they just remind me of how damaging acrimony can be and how devastating too if it takes us away... on different paths... and all we can do is "reminisce"... ~ i sincerely hope that the narrator and the subject of this piece have a future together... at some point in their lives... beyond conflicts and unpleasantness... ~ beautifully written... infinitely poetic work... really liked the deployment of the word "in-betweens" (very innovative phrasing) and "telegraph" (very creative imagery)...
