Toxic

Toxic

A Poem by Alisa Js

Why would I run for something destructive,
when it was you,
who spread out the poison?

How could I manage
this twisted attempt
to console myself,
when it was you
who pushed me over the edge?

Time and again.
I reach for the embers and
press them to my lips,
I might as well admit

I am hopelessly addicted...

Superbly written, capturing the hopelessness, despair and pointlessness of our actions, which could never have changed a drawn out and painful outcome. A nice touch with the last line, admitting that we can be at fault too, for loving someone who doesn't reciprocate that love the way we need.
