Silent Good-bye

it was only a few months ago

we spoke,

in June.

you were so stressed

didn't know what to do

who knew 

that would be our last time

on a fateful day in August

you

closed your eyes

and without a sound,  

were gone

forever,

from this side of ever after

no more phone calls

no more serious discussions,

or endless drama.

quashed

silence.

it all stopped

and you never even said goodbye...

the abrupt nature of this conveys the shock of the departure very well Alisa. We are all creatures who take a while to trust - like a 'fade in' of a record (mp3 kids !) and equally we like a 'fade out' - this read like the needle scratching across the disc in its starkness.

Hi ANTO,

Yes,it was heartbreaking as the last time we spoke, he was under so much stress having to do with his son and complications with the ex-girlfriend.

We were planning to meet again to discuss more possible solutions, and the next news I heard was of his passing.

You never know, eh?

Each day is a gift, reminding us to be present.

Sadly, this poem is literal and I found out recently that a good friend of mine died suddenly in August... from a text message of all things! As the person who sent me the text thought I knew already!

Tragically, I had no idea until that moment.

He lived his life full of stress... it was always one thing after another... he never got any rest... his passing caused me to seriously reflect on my life and choices...
