Rolling Snake Eyes

Rolling Snake Eyes

A Poem by Alisa Js

it matters not the source or inspiration
or even where the road will lead
as
we will all lay down together
one day

in fields of green under granite stones
born...
died...
here lies a mother, father, sister, brother

what about friend?

laughter has become such a rarity these days
I wonder if I remember,
or even how
the sound would be
if it came, snickering my way

constant dialogue running in the back of my head
behind every thought
along side this constant chatter coming in from somewhere
endless,
pressed together without real meaning
repeat.
say what?
never mind
it continues, non-stop

in the cool of the afternoon sun
the words dance,
I hear them
in the heat of the midnight rain
they continue,
tap, tap

lulls and highs are almost incoherent
and yet, at the same time
soothing in a crazy, insane kind of way
together like sparrows on a very tiny limb
baby beak opens for food,
and I almost feel like I'm dreaming
with my eyes open wide

take my hand if you can find it
I may have left it back about a mile or so,
cleaning shards on a hot summer day
is enough to make you forget
everything
anything,
this...

You write of the inevitable of this mortality. Yet when you live, you are part of immortality. Do not trade your immortality prematurely. Oh, we do leave nuts and pieces behind and scattered around the traumatic times of life. Your poetry speaks to this tendency truthfully. Yet we have choices dear friend... As you already know, to attach our soul to what is beyond the mortal planes of this existence.
I loved the poem. It was pure and truthful without being dramatic. We all suffer and it helps to look at this suffering as we "pick up the pieces".

Thank you, kind one💝
Yes we will all lie together at some point or be scattered to the wind if your preference. To find someone to make the journey with is very important and when you find the one to hold hands and stroll through life with, you have been blessed. A very beautiful, well written piece. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Willard for your comments and time. I will be by soon.

Aloha my friend,
I think sometimes theres a pressure to view these kind of days as lazy days and they should make us feel a certain way and we feel bad if we arent having the barbeque that next door is having or the pool party that across the street are having or the peaceful slumbering sleep of our friend down the street. Add that pressure to the usual diatribe from our inner voice(s) and the whole day can be ruined - which means more guilt - more pressure to 'do it right' next time.
Take someone's hand and be with someone - what a gorgeous way to avoid it all.
Loved this Alisa.

~~ for me, this is a very intense and vivid poem is about being spent by just thinking things through for several hours on a hot summer day... ~~ i guess... sometimes even a long session of brutal introspection exhausts us... and is so exacting that we find comfort in the thought that ultimately all of us will die... ~~ but then... another day begins... and more thoughts find us... and we try and do justice to our lives... just because... we are alive...
