Bridges to Nowhere

Bridges to Nowhere

A Poem by Alisa Js

tortured reasons have churned up decades of doubt
winter arrived and struggled to remain,
clinging to this very same hour

mercury spills and rolls away silver
it's cold here, out on this long slide
stumbling downward under all these fears

will we choose springtime again come next autumn
can we bring ourselves to salvage this ice?

heart treasures abandoned in favor of concrete
this wall is too high to climb over and breathe,
I watch now as they gather around you
butterflies swagger and preen

maybe there was more to us
than we ever dared to admit
guess we'll never know now, as you're no longer here
and I'm still reaching
stuck in these layers built over tears
bridges to nowhere,
and yet, I can't leave...

Good write here Alisa. I think many can relate to this feeling. It feels a bit like trying to swim out when the tide is pushing you in and under...
One thing about the last line.
It might read more consistent with the overall poem to ask a question, "How can I leave?" It is obvious you cannot by the poem and the title. So re stating it feels a bit redundant. I totally got the point, but just had the one thought to offer.
A very fine write. Just have to keep building bridges until one gets you where you need to go. 😀

~~ ohhhhh... i know this feeling... it is blinding... ~~ you expressed it so delicately and yet so intensely... ~~ sometimes i think that we (as in us human beings) don't just need courage to face difficult situations... sometimes we need courage to even face love... and the scarcity of courage actually prevents us from being as happy as we can be... ~~ i have also been on the other side of this situation... and been the coward... ~~ most of what i write is about trying to somehow make up for that cowardice... ~~ ah... well...
