Before

Before

A Poem by Alisa Js

I don't want to need you
crave you
want you always
only to see you fade back around the end of a very long
endless discussion
that has nothing to do with this circumstance
and everything to do with before.
what about the middle ground
the bridge that spans years and decades between us,
before we became us
when dreams were our only escape
and fiction wasn't allowed...

sometimes the only talk that a couple end up sharing after a while is smalltalk
the dreams long ago forgotten under the weight of Life and reality and not mentioned again out of embarrassment that they didnt get fulfilled
"what about the middle ground
the bridge that spans years and decades between us,
before we became us" ...the difference between 'we' and 'us' here - a lifetime of lost chances condensed into one line - heartbreaking, I feel.
Your writing never fails to move me Alisa. Im so glad I found it here.

I enjoyed this, it's short but the wording speaks volumes to it's reader. Thought provoking and well penned piece xx

:: a very short but a very insightful piece, sweet alisa... :: for way too many people, an interminable discussion becomes a manifestation of escapism... and when that doesn't get them what they want, they find one particular phase in life in which they can remain stranded... :: helping such people be in the moment as the facilitator and enabler rather than 'preacher' is a very challenging task... one needs the patience of not just a patient friend but the sort of patience of a friend who is meticulous... :: we have to literally show them each strand of every confusing thought they have and show them why they are confused... :: many of them imagine themselves to be very clear-headed... which makes our task even more complex and tough... so, in short, helping a confused person (who thinks he or she is not confused) can be a veritable (metaphorical) nightmare... :P :: just my thoughts after reading your poem... which to me... is a brilliant depiction of a conversation i've often had... and continue to have with my special someone... i don't think he knows of even the existence of that "middle ground" but i don't intend to give up until he does... :P
