Tasting Hope

Tasting Hope

A Poem by Ashley
"

coping with loss

"

tonight,

i sat in the dark and cried.

i mourned the loss of a mother

leaving behind 7 children.

tonight,

i sat in the dark and cried.

i felt the pain of utter

despair and loneliness consume my being.

tonight,

i sat in the dark and cried.

i tasted her blood, shed,

as the tears hit my lips.

tonight,

i sat in the dark and cried.

i forced a smile through tears

as i realized that i am alive.

and i have so much to look forward to.

tonight,

i sat in the dark and cried.

but i did not lose hope.

Author's Note

Ashley
i work as a christian education director/youth pastor. tonight i received word that 7 of my children are without a mother as a result of a tragic car accident. i wrote this not for them, for me. that i may find the peace and strength i need to best serve and love these children during a heinously painful moment of their lives.

You have quite a compassionate, loving and generous heart. There will be times when it will be put to test but I'm sure you'll find the will to continue on. This poem really touched me and I'm glad those children have such a wonderful person to look after them.

Very dark poem, but with for the lack of a better word, hope. It's emotional and caring.
