I Don't Wish You Well (But I Want To)

I Don't Wish You Well (But I Want To)

A Poem by Ali Guerra

It's almost the first of
the month again and I taste
the tartness on your lips:
grapefruits, iced tea, and
lipstick - like a wasp it
lures my skin and the
thought of you stings.

Last April the sky broke
open and I fell into you like
asteroids dropping to the
center of the earth. We
shared kisses worth
savoring, each one
stitched so effortlessly
onto my skin.

You told me you couldn't
love me because your father
was a drifter and you said
you would be too. & I think
of you always at this time
when it is almost the first
of the month, and the
creases of the night are
a herd in my memory,
making me sink.

A amazing and emotional poem. I like the description of the past and the story in the poem. Hard to grasp why we can't have what we desire. The poem had a feel of real life and tale. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

thank you! :]
This was good. Although it was a simple write, you employed some very powerful imagery and literary devices. I particularly liked the last three lines "creases of the night are/a herd in my memory/making me sink." Enjoyed this immensely. Great write.

I appreciate it, friend :) can't wait to read some more of your work
Lingering lines filled with a bittersweet ache.. oh, the loving and the letting go.. then the tainted recollections that bring a mingling of beauty and suffering... Each word seems to move in a somber dance of days...

"Last April the sky broke

That are like some of the best lines I've ever heard. Absolutley brilliant.
