I Don't Wish You Well (But I Want To)A Poem by Ali GuerraIt's almost the first of the month again and I taste the tartness on your lips: grapefruits, iced tea, and lipstick - like a wasp it lures my skin and the thought of you stings. Last April the sky broke open and I fell into you like asteroids dropping to the center of the earth. We shared kisses worth savoring, each one stitched so effortlessly onto my skin. You told me you couldn't love me because your father was a drifter and you said you would be too. & I think of you always at this time when it is almost the first of the month, and the creases of the night are a herd in my memory, making me sink.
