If I Did It

If I Did It

A Poem by Alicia Huntley

If I did it, I would be selfish.

If I put a gun to my head
It would be to blow up what drove
Me crazy.

If I put a gun to my heart
It would be to shoot out
The pain.

If I was to cut with a knife
It would be to bleed out
The sorrow.

If I was to use a rope and hang
It would resemble all the lost breath
From anxiety.

If I was to jump
It would be to feel free
From fear.

If I was to walk out and be hit
It would be the last crushing impact
To feel.

If I was to drown
It would be my last sink into
The abyss.

I am not selfish.
I could not do it to my family,
my friends.
I cannot let anyone else suffer
What I feel.

So with a slipping grasp,
I chose to suffer
And pray that all this pain
Will one day make me tougher.

Your language, and your metaphor skills Alicia, are impeccable.....genuinely, I'm amazed at your ability to express.

One after one, you repeatedly with skill link expression with the performing of some action.

A master, you are at not only poetry.....you're one at expression!
