If

If

A Poem by Alicia Huntley

If words could change so easily, was it all a lie?

If leaving was so hard, how could you say goodbye?

If you loved me, would it not hurt?

If you cared, would you have not stayed?

I torn between it being for the best,

and being sad you walked away.

A work of art. These are the words of a true poet, and of gasping breaths of a broken heart.

A goodbye is a goodbye. Direct and honest words in the poem. Thank you for the excellent poem.
