Late Night ChroniclesA Poem by Alice PoésyHeartbreak Records #1The rum stuck my fingers against the pane of your living room; curtains open, your image floating on the surface of my eyes as you sat on the sofa surrounded by sheets - until your browns met mine and you couldn't bear not to say hi. So I stood in front of your doorstep and we stayed like that a while; hazel to brown, kohl collecting in bruises beneath my eyes, tears in my tights - until you took my hand in yours and kissed the raw skin on my knuckles. The clouds drift a sliver, the moon casts an eye, always in our favour until I untangled my hand from yours and my voice fumbled. I just couldn't bear driving by your house another time and not stopping by. I'm sorry I shouldn't have. I should know better. But I just wanted to look at the constellation in your eyes. And then I left like summer does, the leaves hushing in the breeze, and amongst the whisperings I heard your voice saying those three words we didn't dare speak.
