His

His

A Poem by alex

I've always wondered why
I choose men that hurt me
call me names
cheat
lie
repeat
but now I think I remember
when I was a child
swinging
playing
dreaming
my mother always told me
boys who are mean
pull your hair
call you names
stick out their tongue
they like you very much
so the first time he hurt me
I thought that he
 must like me
 must want me
 must love me
but then things got worse
now he would
punch me
use me
leave me
and go out with other girls
because they weren't his
 punching bag
 property
 victim

A rather stark, introspective revelation of the choices made in life. The easy answer is to make better choices, eh? Nah, that is too obvious and trite. If ONLY we could make better choices consistently in our lives, then perhaps this poem could slowly fade away, never to return. A brave poet here, revealing so much, and doing it well.
