Standing in the rain

Standing in the rain

A Poem by Alex Thurley-Ratcliff
"

December 1994 on the A1 southbound, somewhere in Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire

"
Standing in the rain
And cold
As my breath curls
And foils the air.
One moment "
Wet under the oak trees
The damp sky soaking the crumbled earth "
To know the cold and rain and breath and sky.

Holy leaves are tangled in the green
Grass like moist hair
Ribboned with twigs.

And I
Stand breathing

Wondering what next...

How to go from here?

With a quiet secrecy

Or a wild cry?
