RingingA Story by AlexMrrqnWrote this one night that I just couldn't sleep. I find writing better then sleeping pills. But tell me what you think. I would really appreciate it.
The telephone rings. Jason walks to over messy piles of broken glasses and vases. although his feet are bare, he doesn't flinch as the shards bury into his heels. As he reaches his caller, he notices an exposed wire leading from the wall to the phone. He allows the phone to continue its beckoning as he searches for a role of electrical tape. when he returns the phone is on what should be its last few rings. This caller is patient.
Jason bends over to repair the hole in the wires insulation that his unwanted pet rats most likely had bitten. He wraps the tape around the exposed wire. His hair stands on end, the phone stops ringing, the lights go out, and and his neighbor yells in anger at the sudden loss of electricity. Jason walks back to his chair over the minefield of glass and porcelain. After about a minute passes, power is restored and the telephone continues to ring. As he finally answers his caller he finds only the sound of the lonely dial tone there to speak to him. not two seconds after he sets the phone on the hook it rings again, and once again only the dial tone. This repeats three times until Jason decides to unplug the cord from the wall. and once again the lights go out and the neighbor yells. The apartment walls are like paper. © 2010 AlexMrrqn |
