Manipulate

Manipulate

A Poem by Alexis Caitlin King

My thoughts turned to butter in the air, thick and congealed. They
rained down, big fat globs of hollow sounds.  My heart is empty, but my
eyes are full. Your colors twist and melt together. You just love to
make a fool of me. You turn your lies inside out and I’m back to the
beginning again. That smile twists across your face; you look at me deep
down into my soul. Cold, shivering, withered and weak. You are
insatiable, it’ll never be enough. Shape up, ship out. Keep moving down
this assembly line; your gears are frying. Gray matter seizes and
contorts, shifting reality to another dimension. Keep this life as your
own. My eyes are sore and worn; everything thumps to the beat of this
drum. Kept alive but in the darkness, your shape-shifting ability is
disconcerting. This night is cold, but your stars shine through these
heavens like a million little bioluminescent bugs. I can see my breath,
but I’m draining your internal fire. Just hold me a little bit closer,
all of these terrors will falter and fade. I am just living, and this
life is holding me tight.
