Spider Bites

Spider Bites

A Story by Alexis Caitlin King

I’m here listening to your delicate lullabies, enchanting and
disturbingly beautiful. Keep me close as you spin webs around my head,
harmoniously weaving me into another cocoon. From there you sink your
teeth deep into my flesh, draining me of everything I’ve kept real. I
doubt everything yet again. Sometimes I need you just to stay away. And
tonight, maybe it’ll all change. And tonight, oh yes, tonight; I’m
feeling oh-so-beautiful tonight. Those looming, dreary clouds are
clearing a course. My broken heart is healing, and all that was poignant
is now loosening its grip. Your sickening hands are no longer clamped
at my throat. I can finally breathe, inhaling desperately on wind softly
blowing. I’m feeling my independence growing. I don’t need you here.
