Dad’s Ashtray

Dad’s Ashtray

A Poem by Alexandria Miller

I used to hold jewelry
In it, as a child
Lip glosses, pins, notes.
Sometimes I forget it was yours
Today I remembered.
Smoking a cigarette
Listening to the creek
From the highest balcony.
I can’t leave this behind
I think, worried of all the things
I’ll lose in transition.
I can’t lose you.

I've still got my dad's old wrist watch - its in a box and I never really wear it - but I won't let it go - means too much since his passing! Your shirt poetic reflections have touched my heart - excellent read! Well done … :-)
