Lonely in LA

Lonely in LA

A Poem by Alexandria Miller

The sun sets in an array of colors
That remind you of old school LA.
A splash of tequila on your shorts and the aroma of tobacco.
You remember all of her
Goosebumps. Eyelashes. Freckles.
Your hand on the small of her back.
Her legs rub against yours.
Chipped nail polish and messy hair never looked so good
And she didn't have to do anything to get your attention.
You gave your all to her in hopes for a little bit back.
But you left for work one day and that morning was the last time
You saw her bare body lying warm in your sheets.
The last time you burned your tongue on coffee and wondered
How her skin reflected the light so right.
The very last time she asked you to close the blinds
Because when you came home from work that day,
The apartment was emptier and much colder.
You wondered what you did wrong but she knew it was inevitable.
You try to fill the space but
Every day still feels so empty.
Keep watching the sunset with the smell
of Tequila and tobacco, maybe she will come back
You think.
