When A Kitten First Meows

When A Kitten First Meows

A Poem by Alexa D'Angelo

As the eyes of an angel look at the mother

The glisten in the step

Of the first that she takes

Not a bark or a meow has come

awaits

of all the mates in the crates

Stepping and Trudging

As she walks with a limp

Will she make it?

awaits around

room falls silent

“mew” is all it takes
