Life in ColorA Poem by Alexandra RomeroThe color of a classroom wall could be just that shade of
green. Or it could be the color she sees every day that bores her
to death. It could be the color of his mother’s eyes as she smiles in
the light of her last days. It could also be that same exact color of a tie, down to the
last fiber of its fabric, that he wore the first time he saw her. But it could also just be green. That red car she sees on their walk home could just be red. Or it could be the color of her dress as he watches her hips
swing to the rhythm of a heart felt ballad. It could be the color of his cheeks as he kisses her goodnight. And it could also be the same exact color of little velvet box
in his pocket. But it could also just be red. That white she sees as she wears her wedding dress for the
first time could just be the color white Or it could be the color of the curtains that were drawn
closed on their honeymoon in Myrtle Beach. It could be the color of her first maternity dress, And it could also be the color of the first baby beanie that
he bought. But it could also just be white. © 2014 Alexandra Romero |
