Glass Trees

Glass Trees

A Poem by Alene Parr

Wipe your eyes
Your open-wide disguise.
You don't fool anyone.
You're lost.
You don't know where you're going,
And it's showing.

You hide among
Glass trees
And we can
See you.
We can see you.

And they will crack.
Yes, they will break.
Shatter like the sun is an axe.
And their twisted roots
Will
Come loose
From the earth
But you
Can't hide behind those either.

Tear your own from the dirt
And brush them off.
They're still useful,
Even after you've buried them.
