![]() The Three WitchesA Poem by Alegre
People
from Salem are still frightened by The
events of the nineteenth of July. Even
though they took place a while ago, The
impact lasts and continues to grow.
The
legend tells the tale of three witches, Who were
fooled by men who took their riches. Since
then, they vowed to avenge this deceit; They
would make all men pay and face defeat.
They
began luring many blameless men, And
taking them to the same little glen. As soon
as the men felt pleasure and glee, The
witches murdered them mercilessly.
This
continued for an entire decade, But the
witches grew bored of their charade. They
created a rather cruel plan; They
would capture and then ignite a man.
On the
nineteenth of July late at night, The witches
performed their pernicious rite. They
abducted the first man that they found, And
gathered all the people from their town.
They tied
this innocent man to a post, And
surrounded him with wood for his roast. The
people watched them with genuine fear; They all
knew this man's adverse end was near.
The
witches held hands with concentration, As they
uttered a dark incantation. The body
of the man began to burn, And
people fled, not knowing where to turn.
That
night they all heard the witches' laughter, Which
they heard every night ever after. Without a
trace, the witches disappeared, And where
they went to was never revealed.
However,
people in other places Claimed
to have witnessed similar cases. All
attempts to find the witches had failed, And the endless
terror they caused prevailed. © 2014 AlegreAuthor's Note
