Light

Light

A Poem by Y.S.F

A narrow beam of light blinds my eyes

My hair, nails, and emptiness grow longer to my surprise

The lingering presence of death

Takes away my voice, my breath

All that remains is a shivering chaos of thought

Boiling feelings from old memories I mistakenly sought

As I stare into the hollow air

Picturing a glowing land I can find nowhere

I wonder when it was that I went wrong

While my heart drifts away into a bittersweet song

Answering none of my questions and doubts

Clueless still of my whereabouts

With darkness surrounding my very being

I dance clumsily with ghostly fireflies I keep seeing

As quiet as night, as horrible as day

With a need to escape in whichever way

As each sway away from my line of sight

I remember not what is wrong, what is right

Yet the dim light still reaches my dizzy mind

And once again I leave this old cell behind
