Spa-mericks

Spa-mericks

A Poem by alanwgraham
"

Inspired by travails in Spain.

"
I'm now on the flight to Spain
but the spaniels can be such a pain
and if you want proof
Just hear them go woof
and the rain best not fall on the plain .

We're here on the Costa del Sol
It's not where I wanted at all
If I must be so bold
I'd prefer somewhere cold
the Arctic would be my first call

In Spain there are things that I like
Its fine if you're keen on the bike
You can pedal up hills
Then enjoy thrills and spills
But for me, I'll stick to my trike.

In Spain the people speak funny
there's something bit queer 'bout the money
don't mention the food
It ain't very good
and I won't spill the beans 'bout my tummy

In Pamplona I went out for a run
I thought, 'this lark might be fun'
until gored by a bull
I thought, ' oh what a fool'
twould be safer to carry a gun

I arrived in the town of Madrid
'no you did'nt', 'oh, yes I did'
A city of culture
For a culture vulture
Of my money, I soon got rid

The flamenco I love to dance
but the Spaniards I didn't entrance
with my two left feet
It wasn't a treat
and I got not as much as a glance

One night my love life felt slack
Not much going on in the sack
So I bought a blue pill
Oh boy, what a thrill
We were halfway to heaven and back

Paella's a dish for a man
Cooked in a rather large pan
With seafood and rice
It tastes rather nice
But of cockles I'm not much a fan

In Barca arrived our own Lorry
A man, in a van, in a hurry
A quick tour of Gaudi
From the back of an Audi
But had the guid grace to say sorry

I'm never writing another limerick! You've smashed all us limerick hopefuls into the dust with this fine bit of word crafting. You've taken limericks to Spain, by way of the moon. My favorite lines: "stick to my trike" . . . "won't spill the beans about my tummy" . . . "In Pamplona I went for a run" . . . not to mention the Viagra Verse & the Paella Passages . . . you've hit every possibility for fun & derision! I am deeply & irretrievably jealous of your efforts here! Glad you had a good time in Spain & hope you didn't bring home anything strange (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A mighty good one, Alan. Surely our Spanish adventures weren't the same, but then you didn't have go as a swabby. So many clever little rhyming quips, I had a good time. (I turned my head when you took the blue pill and proceeded to er... you know)
Barcelona, Spain, was the very first foreign country I visited--June, 1970. Such a big world, this country bumpkin's head did spin.

A lovely rhyme takes on a tour of Spain; it has much humor, and you've made it cleverly rhyme. I like that line about the "blue" pill ( what was it?) also the line about dancing with two left feet. This piece flowed so well, and was most enjoyable to read!! Thanks and best, Betty

For some reason I enjoy writing these and I think they are easier. Thanks for your kind words Kay read more
I can't write these...I would suck at them...Henry Higgens would approve greatly of this, with that rain in Spain thing.
I hope that Audi has plenty of gas...if you can't dance you may have to give out rides.
nice trip here.

I am liking your limericks based on your travels to Spain. I have enjoyed holidays there too, but not for a while. You are rather good at these Alan. I remember seeing a wonderful flamenco. Incredible, it was. How wonderful to be able to dance like. that. I wonder dear Alan how long it will be before you are able to travel back there. Keep well and safe in these troubled times. Also more limericks please.

I like Spain, our whole family does; so many contrasts; and in country, away from the hustle and bustle, it is a most beautiful place.

Enjoyed your bit of fun.
