Why?

Why?

A Poem by alanwgraham
"

Life is one long question!

"

Why?

Come to daddy                              Why?

Eat your tea Sam                           Why?

Be a good boy for mummy           Why?

Why do you keep saying why?     Why?

Time to get up Sam                       Why?

Time for bed                                 Why?

Why is your hair going grey daddy?

Why does that dog have a big tummy?

Why are you drinking beer grandad?

Why does that spider have seven legs?

Why can’t daddies have babies mummy?

Why do I have to be home by ten mum?

Why can’t I buy these trainers dad?

Why do I have to come on holiday with you?

Why can’t I leave my homework till tomorrow?

Why must I tidy up my room?

Why are you such a pain dad?

Why do we need to ask boring Boris to the wedding?

Why do we need a house with three bedrooms?

Why did we buy a house with only three bedrooms?

Why on earth did we decide to have children Sam?

Why are teenagers so awkward?

Why have they turned out so well balanced?

Why didn’t I stop working years ago?

Why can’t I stop worrying about the kids?

Why do I feel so tired in the mornings darling?

Why am I passing blood doctor?

Why can’t I get more chemo’?

Why me?

Your words are well-crafted, but what speaks louder is the progression of your message. You’ve done a brilliant job of taking us on a purposeful journey thru some typical lives, but you do it in an original way! The ending is powerful & adds even more meaning to many of the preceding questions. You remind me how I’ve never had kids, so I never got all those endless “why” questions (except from plentiful nieces & nephews, whom I could ignore! *wink! wink!*) Fondly, Margie

Thank you . . . it gets tiring, seeing this wrinkled old mug every morning over my cup of coffee!

It's nice how the why's start from a young age to elderly age. This is cute then slowly gets sadder. I like that. Nice job

Dear Alan,
Reading this, I am reminded of all the "Why" questions we ask every day. It puts it into perspective. We ask these questions, then we later find out why these questions were better off not said. That's what I caught in the beginning. Then it changed into more deep questions that had regret behind them then a sense of loss. Makes you think. I appreciate reads like this.

The never ending story of the why’s.....Ok, here is MY WHY LiSt:
-why, since I’m so inquisitive, was I born to two uneducated people who didn’t like questions.
- why did my father seem to despise me my whole life and now we are estranged?
- why did my mother always say I won’t amount to anything?
- why was it was my parents able to love my sister the youngest of five and not me the oldest of five?
- why was I able to survive such abuse and still be a productive human?
- why do so many kids give up these days and kill them selves when 50 years ago we never thought about that we just thought about surviving a bad situation?

I really like your poem Alan and I think you probably do this for a living because you’re pretty good at it !

Yes. Whys are the first symptoms of ever curious humans. I really like asking why too because it is a learning for both the parties. Awesome read :)

The never ending whys. A handy tip is to plead the fifth, as there will only be more answers to follow. But you already knew that, didn't you? :)
Life can seem to revolve around unanswerable questions. You seemed to have covered them all here Alan, except the most important of all....What made you think to write a poem of whys? :)
Superbly done.

A unique way to show time flying and life moving on. We all have questions and can relate to this.
