Savannah Rose

Savannah Rose

A Poem by smilemore

Listening to your heart beat, so fragile, so innocent,

It’s like nothing I’ve ever heard before.

Allow me to sit here and listen all day,

Peaceful and mere happiness,

A ten week old miracle,

Thank you for blessing me, God.

Eleven weeks, you’re the size of a fig,

So small, yet my heart is so big.

Twenty-nine weeks to go,

My belly getting ready to show!

Your hands will soon be able to open and close,

You make mommy so happy, it shows.

Fifteen weeks now, the size of an apple,

I pray for your healthy life everyday, in the chapel.

The doctors told me your sex,

My most beautiful baby girl, lets see what next.

You’re able to sense light now,

I will love you unconditionally, to you I vow.

Twenty weeks, mamas getting excited to meet you,

I can feel, your eyes will be big and blue.

Now the size of a banana,

What do you think of the name Savannah?

Mama hopes you love it,

I know you will, just my mothers wit.

Twenty-four weeks, still so small, the size of corn,

Seventeen more weeks for you to be born.

Feels like you’re having a kickboxing match,

I don't mind, mommy can handle a little scratch.

You’ve started to hear sounds now, what a good choice,

I hope you enjoy the soothing sound of your mamas voice.

The size of a cantaloupe, at thirty-four weeks,

Hoping you come out with some cute rosy cheeks.

I’m a little nervous about giving birth,

It will all be worth it, having you with me on earth.

Doctor told me your lungs are maturing,

I love hearing great news about you, so reassuring.

Thirty-eight weeks now, the size of a leek,

I’ve bought you so many clothes, from a cute boutique.

Three more weeks until I get to meet you,

You are going to be the most beautiful view.

One more week until I’ve reached full term,

My favorite feeling is your little squirm.

Baby, today is the day,

I’m very excited, it’s the fifth of May.

I can’t lie, I’m feeling a little nervous,

But, our doctors will be doing us such a great service.

It’s time for you to come out now,

The doctors say I’m ready, if you'll allow.

Hi baby girl, welcome to the world,

I hope you feel loved in mamas arms, curled.

Just as I said, you're as beautiful as ever,

Mama will never let go, holding you forever.

You have mommy's eyes and daddy’s nose,

My girl is so beautiful, Savannah Rose.

I decided to look at your work. Such inclination allows me to use insight as needed. I wasn't disappointed, and it sounds like neither were you on this joyous occasion!

The word choice was amazing. It portrays emotion perfectly, as is the poet's objective. The line count was not in vain: it was needed for such topic. You really thought this one out, and I believe you will be the perfect parent. Well, perfect for her, right?

I'm 35, BTW. My family's standards did not permit me to have children. It's not that I wanted to, it's just my family's customs are just that. I admire the miracle of life, as I learned how to deliver a baby in an emergency. I dream of being a midwife. Don't laugh. I know I'm a male. Lol.

This poem is beautiful. I'm breathless in this gift you shared about your gift. Bravo, my friend. :)
