Lonely Waters

Lonely Waters

A Poem by Harold
"

'Lonely Waters' is the title of a piece of music by the Irish/English composer E. J. Moeran. The poem was written after a short break with my wife in the 'Forest of Dean' in Gloucestershire.

"

Come with me, slowly, through the woods;

Let the trees wrap quietly around;

Let them hide us from the world.

Walk with me, along the hardly-moving brook,

Stifled by ferns and creepers,

Listen, to its under-the-breath singing.

Sit with me, by the lake;

Where sunlight shimmers off the water,

And leaves barely stir.

Feel with me, an enchantment

Of stillness and space;

A complexity of shades and textures.

Breathe with me, pine-scented, air;

Rest, where nothing bad can happen;

Dream with me, where there is time to be us.
