A Poem by Alaina Hunter

1. A Year’s Tale

Spring.

Blossoming flowers-

Blossoming love.

You were perfect.

I was happy.

Summer.

Blazing hot sun-

Blazing hot passion.

You were crazy.

I was ridiculous.

Autumn.

Falling leaves-

Falling hearts.

You were tired.

I was lost.

Winter.

Bitter cold-

Bitter end.

You were fine.

I was miserable.
2. Another Sleepless Night

Another sleepless night

Thinking over a million goodbyes

But none we could ever get right

The next farewell already in sight

We tried, and tried again

To put all of this to an end

But I couldn’t quite see through

Even a week without you

You fought your feelings so hard

Trying your best to keep me far

But you’d come to miss me, too

After all, you swore it was true

3. For Tommy

Find some peace behind those sleepy eyes of your’s tonight

And don’t forget to tell the stars goodnight

Tuck yourself into your bed

I won’t be there to kiss your sweet head

Brush your teeth and be a good boy

Find a great book that you can enjoy

Pay no mind to the noises downstairs

I know how they’re prone to give you a scare

But don’t you worry, please don’t be afraid

Between me and you, things will always be the same

No matter the hardships our family goes through

I’ll be there to take care of you

Right there beside you, or miles apart

I’ll comfort your little fragile heart

It’s been through so much, mine’s been through it, too

You and me? We’re stuck like glue
