Release Me.

Release Me.

A Poem by Samer Al-Abed

While I lay among the minute and the defenseless,
Feeling surely powerless myself,
My thoughts, hopes, and dreams collapsed and shattered in despair,
Yet my focus absorbed by all the unknowns that mirror our lands.
Giving me a sense of wonder though troubled,
As so my beliefs are once again called into question.
Where do the trees run freely?
When will the oceans stay still?
Why don't the skies declutter?
What will cool this breeze of flame?

Some answers tease me without forbearance,
Others are torn from an abundance of sinister wit.
All of which allow for more agony,
Whilst crawling slowly through the enigma of fate.
Answers will not present themselves before their time,
Thus making our torment irrational at best.
Do not seek to comprehend the inevitable.
Your shackles are tight and your script will be read.
The mere thought of escape is futile,
Simply put: Where will you go?

Only a single entity may rescue your essence.
Give you a high of which you will not wake.
Cover your eyes with a bright veil of comfort,
And release you from the constant image of demise.
The specter that grasps our most intimate wishes.
The shadow shedding light upon the deepest part of our souls.
The phantom whispering smiles into the ears of our hearts.
The spirit hiding amongst the living as if it belongs,
We pray to one day encounter and greet with open arms.
But may never be fortunate to inhale their aura and taste their flesh.
