Twijfel

Twijfel

A Poem by Basmakyah Borz

Sometimes I want to let it go.
I want to free myself from
memory's chains, unlock the gate,
and fly away forever.

But I still have these days
when revenge is all I think about.
Why did I not hurt you
when I had the chance?

I walk around like Majnunah
(let's say that story's roles are reversed)
talking to myself and arguing on
about what's fair in love and violence
or if it was even a fair fight to start with.

Either way, I lost.
Be careful of what you did to me, though;
they say you either die a hero
or live long enough to become the villain.
