the temple of knowledge

the temple of knowledge

A Poem by platinum

The temple of knowledge, the place called school;

Is a place of worship and cleanliness here is a rule

With this view we develop a cleanliness charter,

To be followed in every institution of knowledge barter.

Each day begins in the assembly ground

With a prayer for prosperity all around.

Thus the ground should be litter-free;

A welcome abode for the goddess saraswati.

This leads the child to the classroom

Where she discovers the power of the broom

Sweeping the dirt in her mind and words,

In the face of an enemy, stands mightier than swords.

Corridors and halls in the school brimming with noisy chatter

Are as vulnerable to dirt as the kitchens full of batter.

Paper planes and toffee wrappers ending up in these aisles

Only culminates in the wrinkles of noses and reduction of smiles.

Every laboratory that emanates the odour of a rotting egg

Is the place of practical learning for which students beg.

Dirty flasks and beakers can never be a welcoming sight

And might crush the student’s interest in mid-flight.

An auditorium is the podium for a student’s potential

And also the signal of days of fun, frolic and rehearsal.

But  dirty chairs and food underneath

Can destroy the school’s respectable sheath.

Gardens filled with flowers are the toil of the grower

And students are not eligible to use their hands as mowers

The flowers and plants are living creatures

And cleanliness in their environment is the school’s biggest feature.

 The library : the room of books and a scholar’s paradise

Has the right to be neat and tidy with books in their shelves precise

A disheveled library  can never be inviting

 So let us leave it in a manner which makes it enticing.

Our school, our world, our pride

Our light and guide

Deserves to remain clean and pristine

For cleanliness allows knowledge to attend the world where its seekers convene….
