In the winters of my youth I loved to steal away to ride our old Ski-Daddler snowmobile on cold and clear silent nights. The experience of slipping through the forest by "the silver of the moon" is one I'll never forget. Late at night... eerily blue-gray bright. Glimpsing snowshoe hare darting between the trees, annoying the occasional moose lumbering through the snow, breaking out of the woods onto a frozen and snow-covered lake glistening like a field of diamonds beneath the lesser light.
