Rendezvous

A Poem by AK
"

Inspired by Jill Martin's 'Winter Moon Fields'

"

In the winters of my youth I loved to steal away to ride our old Ski-Daddler snowmobile on cold and clear silent nights. The experience of slipping through the forest by "the silver of the moon" is one I'll never forget.

Late at night... eerily blue-gray bright.

Glimpsing snowshoe hare darting between the trees, annoying the occasional moose lumbering through the snow, breaking out of the woods onto a frozen and snow-covered lake glistening like a field of diamonds beneath the lesser light.

It's been years since I've thought of those secret hours.

It was during those late-night escapes that I began to fall in love with my mistress... my Alaska.

Did I ever tell you my Aunt went to visit visit your Alaska? She was on a mission funded through church. She fell in love too. And in more ways than one ... she brought back an uncle when she came home.

I bet that was nearly thirty years ago and they are still together.

Today seems like a good day to reflect. It isn't just me, I see. Very nice memories, Ak.

You make one long to be there with you watching the hare dart and the lumbering Moose. Breath-taking!

It sounds so magical. I can understand about loving a place. I know I could never live anywhere but here. I love your words.

beautiful. There is no way to describe to my desert dwelling buddies the "blue" of a winter in the north country....the way everything is well....blue....you know. This post reminded me of that.

Nicely penned with beautiful description. Snow is beautiful and you've expressed it in a wonderful way.
