She is heartbroken yet hopeful, abandoned but not lost.
She looks out over the waves and smells the salt air,
hears the gulls above,
notices the couple walking their golden retriever far down the beach
(he seems to love chasing the stick thrown for him).
She feels the Sun's warmth on her skin as she holds her fleeting dreams so tightly.
But slowly, intuitively really, she begins to understand that the things
she so desperately desires are surely hers already.
Indeed, each of those grains of sand represents a gift
that's been reserved for her all of her life.
Gifts that cannot be held or contained.
Gifts that can only be silently accepted.
Gifts that are hers alone.
Gifts that only she can use perfectly.
Her understanding of these gifts and how to unwrap them is still vague, almost clouded.
But it is becoming more clear with each new day.
She understands that now as she briefly turns to look behind her.
She can see how far she's come.
She remembers the rocky path that brought her to this place.
A thought comes to her… A thought that seems to be heard and felt in her soul, all at once.
That thought, that voice, that feeling, tells her
the storm clouds clearing on the horizon are always moving.
And like the tide flowing before her now, she must yield to the perfect power that would draw her steadily, patiently, and completely to her destination.
