LOL! [well yes, of course. what else did you expect?]
The world's attempt to add a little animation to flat letters on a screen . . . or there are those emoticoms which can be quite cutesie to the point of annoying.
You are so funny....this was cute. I can remember when I first saw LOL I thought everyone was saying "Lots o' luck". I don't why, that's the only thing I could think of. Finally I asked someone what it meant. I use it all the time now, but there are a lot of abbreviations I don't know the meaning of still..... :)
This one made me laugh AK, LOL, I think we at the computer use that a lot, to let people know we appreciate what they have written and brought a smile or a chuckle to us, thanks for this, I enjoyed it
and I think I just Lol'd , Elsie
Personally, I most appreciate BRB...which for me is a hurried rush for a ...bath-room-break! I do know where you're coming from. Geez, I really don't understand a lot of these abbreviated letters either..heck.. I learn my way slowly! Glad I'm not the only one annoyed by the lol..which unfortunately I have used as well. This is great to point it out. First time I saw it I pictured a ...lollipop. Sigh!
AK, you are such a goof, but I love it. What a creative write...You see, in this world of internet technology, text messaging, and so on, we must be able to put the most meaning in as few a words as possible. Otherwise texting and messaging on here would become a much longer and more laborious task than any of us want. So, we laugh out loud (lol), we state our humble opinion (IMHO) or we add something quickly at the end of our message with a (BTW)-By the way. BTW....IMHO this is a very funny write. I am LOL! Past tense being LDOL! LOL
ROFL! What a brilliant piece of satire! I suppose the past tense of (LOL) could very well be (LOL'D) & of course, (lol) could be (lol'd)! (ROFL!)
In fact, I'm quite sure of it! I received a review on one of my pieces from a student who was in class when she read it. She said & I quote: "I totally LOL'D in class & my teacher gave me the death stare. Then she read it & thought it was funny! The whole class read it - some didn't get it, IDIOTS!)
I totaly agree! When i first going on the internet i would see that term and i had to pause a moment and figure out what it meant. I have never really been able to get the hang of it all though. So I came up with this.
lol - snicker
LoL - Ha ha
LOL - Belly Laugh for 6 seconds or less
ROFL - Laughing uncontrolably carless if you make an a*s out of yourself
I don't know if anyone else would view it the way i do, but i thought i'd throw in my two bits.
I also agree with how these are mostly attached to statements that are not really that funny. This leads me to say that past tense of "lol" would most likely be "lolled' making it a statement more akin to being bored or lazy.
My perseonally, I'll just laugh. he he ho ho Ha ha Muahahahahaaaa! :)
LOL ;-) You got it down pat!! I love the lol...an impish laugh. I'm not much on the abbreviations, I think I'd be bad at text messaging, but I do love to use LOL when something tickle my funny bone.
If you haven't visited my Alaska... well... well... shame on you : >)
