After Hours

After Hours

A Poem by AK

After-hours on the internet

the Café is all but closed

Most folks have turned in for the night

fast asleep now I suppose

So I'm just checking all the pages

of those who've touched my soul

Reading all the wondrous works

if there's something new, I have to know

Some write about their hopes and dreams

other's humor makes me smile

Some just break my heart in two

as they tell of tragedy or trial

Still others young and full of dreams

for them it's just a start

But for most, well... I guess we've been around

and we've tried to do our part

It's funny though, when it's quiet here

one can sense the echoed lines

The gifts of beauty and the love

in prose, and verse, and rhyme.

So I'm done for now, new day is nigh

and tomorrow... more to read

But tonight I'll dream of all your words

sleep well dear friends... indeed!

Now I can just see you cruisin around, probably feelin like the only one in the world who's awake . . . the last of the time zones to put out the light. Bless your heart, this is the sweetest thing ~ it's like you're tip-toeing from page to page checking on everyone's well being before you put out the cat and lock the doors. I adore this, D. A gift.

Thank you for sharing your heart.

Love, j

oh, Dale, I love this! It makes me feel warm and close. I'm part of that. Or I add a word to it here and there, anyway. This place, this imaginary cafe, this internet hangout of the lover of words has changed my life. I've found inspiration here. And tears. And smiles. I've found words. Big ones.

Thank you for sending this my way.

What a sweet and soothing write, and to use the collective of this cafe as your muse. I feel you tucking everyone in, and almost putting kisses on the foreheads of everyone in here that you read. A cool way to wind down at the end of a day. Nice feel to this one, I liked it very much.
