After Hours

After Hours

A Poem by AK

After-hours on the internet

the Café is all but closed

Most folks have turned in for the night

fast asleep now I suppose

So I'm just checking all the pages

of those who've touched my soul

Reading all the wondrous works

if there's something new, I have to know

Some write about their hopes and dreams

other's humor makes me smile

Some just break my heart in two

as they tell of tragedy or trial

Still others young and full of dreams

for them it's just a start

But for most, well... I guess we've been around

and we've tried to do our part

It's funny though, when it's quiet here

one can sense the echoed lines

The gifts of beauty and the love

in prose, and verse, and rhyme.

So I'm done for now, new day is nigh

and tomorrow... more to read

But tonight I'll dream of all your words

sleep well dear friends... indeed!

Now I can just see you cruisin around, probably feelin like the only one in the world who's awake . . . the last of the time zones to put out the light. Bless your heart, this is the sweetest thing ~ it's like you're tip-toeing from page to page checking on everyone's well being before you put out the cat and lock the doors. I adore this, D. A gift.

Thank you for sharing your heart.

Love, j

Dale, this is prose in motion., exactly what it should be, the subtle skill
accentuates the passion and the way your words effect the reader,
leaving impressions that have feature of sentiment and outline of endearment,
a writing that most can relate to, has encouraging, uplifting effect,
because people who are out there supporting the cause make the difference.

I simply loved this piece! You have a certain gift. I love the flow, it tells a story & progresses quite nicely from beginning to end & it's adorable!

Nicely done...

Oh this is so lovely, such a tribute to this place you obviously hold in high regard. Although new here, I'm sure I will feel this way soon for I've already been touched by several things I've read.

This is very cute. I am often online in the middle of the night when there seems to be no one on, but when it is night where I live, it is in the middle of the day for others. I feel that the Cafe is always alive and full of writers energy. I love it here and if I had not known of it before, this would definatly inspire me to visit it. Thank you for writing and sharing.

A nice tribute to all of the talented writers out there!

The rhyming was perfection, smooth flowing all the way through.

I enjoyed reading this uplifting piece which showed an appreciation for each poet's individuatity.

This is really good! The tone is perfect for late-night contemplation. Has a tranquil 'After-hours' feel to it, set in my mind by the first stanza.

As well as the first one, I also really like this stanza:

It's funny though, when it's quiet here
one can sense the echoed lines
The gifts of beauty and the love
in prose, and verse, and rhyme.

Great stuff!

This poem tells the reader much more than the story of the Cafe...it tells us a story about your personality. The message tells us you are comfortable, confident, and inviting. The writing style tells us you are intelligent and thoughtful. I enjoyed reading this poem, and I look forward to reading more of your writing in the future.

So I'm done for now, new day is nigh
and tomorrow... more to read
But tonight I'll dream of all your words

... So then you don't think I'm nutzoid for visiting your page to listen to your tunes or read a bit even when I don't comment? I do that sometimes, to you and to others I feel ties with. It helps me when all is so quiet kind of like it is now. I take from the pages of my friends, sometimes even those I don't know, their words stay with me and in a silly kind of way, I feel more like I'm a part of the bigger picture.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean except you said it so very elegantly.
