The Day the Towers Fell

The Day the Towers Fell

A Poem by AK
"

Written on the first anniversary of 9-11 for the newsletter of the small church I attend.

"

A year ago our lives were different
Somehow safer, more secure
Though we faced our daily challenges
We knew that we’d endure
But today we are more wary
And by God’s Spirit we can tell
The Gates began to open the day the towers fell

The world cries “peace” but none is found
Save in the Holy Ghost
Now the burden of travail
Is hard upon this modest host
Our altar filled by saints who seek Him
For all they can receive
The gifts and power needed
To build the bridge to those who’ll flee

So what shall be our legacy?
What will generations say?
About this little *Philadelphia church
And the Shepherd who leads our way?
They sought the Lord! They used His power!
In them God was pleased to dwell
They knew the Gates would soon be opened
The day the towers fell.

Whew. So. He is done with patience with this ~ the most heinous act committed against Americans on US soil? Those of us old enough [yech] have experienced two historic tragedies that rocked the world ~ and I often wonder at the relevancy of t.i.m.e. The 'small stuff' our lives revolve around become meaningless ripples when faced with the magnitude of this write. In your own subtle and eloquent style, it's hard to miss the warning for those willing to look. Well done.

The gates you refer to are like the gates of hell, which were thrown open on that tragic day. This is a sorrowful tribute which is made personal to you with its religious overtones. A fitting piece.

amen. This reminded me - we spend - some of us spend so much time and effort fighting the darkness - when the light is right there. Not minimizing the horrific events by any means - but what hope can we give if we never look up? Thank you for that reminder. My chin has been on the floor the past few days. that is one of the beautiful things about this place. People like you who will simply stand and write something like this. I need to tattoo it on my forehead....commit it to memory...sing it.
A wonderful write.

Wow. You put a lot of emotion and meaning into very few words. I liked this. Jill is correct as well, everything else seems so small compared to these events.

Thank you for sharing,
T.K.

Very nice. It's great that you can pull religion into something such as this event. It had lots of emotion, the kind that makes a lump in your throat and a rush of thoughts in your head. Great job. =)
